The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is committed to providing young people with an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development, which is of the highest quality and the widest reach

The Duke of Edinburgh scheme is available to all Secondary schools In Southend. There are 3 levels which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. The main difference between them is the minimum length of time they take to complete, how challenging they are and the minimum age a student can start.

Schools can start students in Year 9 with a Bronze Level Award and can go on to do Silver and Gold in following years:

Bronze – for those aged 14+ years
Silver – for those aged 15+ years
Gold – for those aged 16+ years

Four sections – Volunteering, Skill, Physical and Expedition

Activities for each DofE section take a minimum of one hour a week over a set period of time, so they can be fitted in around academic study, hobbies and social lives. Development and regular progress must be shown and all activities must be completed by the participant’s 25th birthday.
