60 Minutes can make a real difference to a young person’s future.
60 Minute Mentor aims to increase the aspirations of young people in the Borough. The programme involves an individual from the local business community visiting a school and talking to a group of students about working in a particular industry.
These sessions help to provide students with a better understanding of the job opportunities available to them in Southend and the different pathways into these careers.
Sessions can be aimed at all ages and have successfully run in both primary and secondary schools as well as at a college level.
The programme currently has mentors in a variety of different industries and if we do not have a mentor in the area a school is keen to hear from we will do our best to source a new mentor for the session.
Many schools have requested sessions in:
Accountancy, Film Making & Photography, Recruitment, ICT, Web Design & Digital Marketing, Retail, Catering, Animal Care, Gardening, and many more.
Alternatively sessions can be on CV Writing and Interview Techniques.
Each session is flexible to the schools needs in terms of the time and date of the session, target age group and class size.
This is a completely free service and we want as many schools to take part as possible.
Some of the schools which are already engaging or are set to in the next academic year include:
St Bernards High School, St Thomas More High School, Eastwood Academy, St. Nicholas School, Earls Hall Primary School, Eastwood Primary School and Heycroft Primary School.
We would like all schools to get involved in 60 Minute Mentor booking in either a one off or a series of sessions.
